Chic from Coast to Coast
A break from the city is more of a necessity than a luxury to maintain sanity, especially with the recent weather whiplash. From a week of rain to a heat wave, it can be quite difficult to plan an outfit. Luckily, I am back on the West Coast, for some overdue time with family, weddings, and much needed decompressing. Determined to soak in a slower pace, I’m reminded of the importance of balance. The good is made better with a new perspective, a reset, and embracing the ebbs and flows.
As a bi-coastal gal, I appreciate the value of contrast and find gratitude in two different lifestyles. Teetering between coasts is an opportunity to fully appreciate the character of each place. The West Coast offers nostalgia, community and familiarity. New York provides excitement, growth, and independence. Experiencing both environments strengthens my adaptability and confidence.
As the city that never sleep, I definitely prioritize bedtime in New York… Just ask my roommate. But upon arrival back home, it’s as if I’ve been awake for the past week straight. The first couple days back consist of naps and instant dozing off the second my head hits the pillow. After 10 hours of R.E.M, I ease into the day relaxed and rested, until my next nap of course. While I’m protective of my energy and routine in New York, there is nothing quite as unraveling as lounging in your childhood home.
The flow of California feels like an indulgence compared to the usual skyscrapers and busy streets. But Manhattan contains a magic that heightens my spirit of spontaneity and curiosity. With a running list of restaurants to try, museums to visit, and events to attend, there is never a shortage of activity. Simply walking down the street holds the promise of adventure, meeting someone new, or stumbling upon a unique experience. Life is much sweeter when we are brave enough to assimilate to new surroundings, and recalibrate our pace of life.
